<div>Since pet care is a partnership, our clients also have some responsibilities. As a client, we ask that you help us in the following areas:</div><div>- Treat our doctors and staff with respect.</div><div>- Express your concerns so your doctor knows and can address them directly. Communicating your and your pet’s needs before, during, and after an appointment is critical in providing the best care.</div><div>- Disclose relevant, accurate, and complete information about your pet’s health and history.</div><div>- Make prompt payment. Our costs are incurred as services are rendered. In order to continue providing these services we must cover those costs.</div><div>- Follow administrative and operational protocols such as on-time arrival for appointments, health requirements for Pet Resort services, leashing requirements, and visiting hours.</div><div>- Recognize that medical care is rarely 100% certain. No medication or medical procedure is always effective, and complications can and do arise that are beyond our control. We will work with you in following up with any complications and will always act in both your and your pet’s best interest.</div>

Standiford Veterinary Center offers mentorships and externships for veterinary students as well as externships for veterinary technician students.<br><br>

Standiford Veterinary Center is an extraordinary general practice providing a great learning environment for our future veterinary technicians and nurses! Veterinary Technology externship students will receive hands-on training working with small animals. Students will gain experience in understanding the veterinary client patient relationship (VCPR) while working closely with skilled senior level veterinarian and technician leadership.

Standiford Veterinary Center is delighted to host veterinary students for externships!  This valuable clinical experience will let you take what you’ve learned in the classroom and put it to the test in an animal hospital of your choice.  Our hands-on externships are designed exclusively for veterinary students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools in their clinical years, typically meaning their 3rd or 4th year of vet school.  Since every student has different interests, we are excited to offer these programs at a wide variety of our amazing partner hospitals.  We know that travel and lodging expenses for externships can often be cost-prohibitive on a student’s budget.  To make our externships as accessible as possible, we offer stipends to externs to help offset these costs (unless prohibited by the veterinary school you are attending).

Standiford Veterinary Center is offering 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week externships to help jump-start your experience in a busy small animal practice. This is an excellent opportunity for any student looking for hands-on experience in a high-quality hybrid/GP and ER practice in a learning environment meant to jump-start their career as successful practice-ready doctors.

Students will receive a study guide based on the length of their externships and some recommended reading will be asked of the students. A minimum 40-hour-a-week commitment is expected.

Housing is available for students if needed and a stipend is provided as well.

Our externship program requires students to be enrolled in their second year or equivalent of an accredited veterinary technician program and must commit to no less than 200 externship hours. Candidates applying to the externship must submit a resumé, have strong communication skills, be able to work well with staff and be at least 18 years of age upon acceptance into the externship.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to the very kind, attentive staff at PETS. Their genuine care made one of the most difficult decisions slightly less painful. I truly felt cared for and witnessed the care they showed my sweet babygirl. Whenever visiting the emergency room, there’s a higher cost associated with care. That being said their prices seem on par with similar facilities out there. When emergency care is necessary it’s good to know that the care is exceptional.

We had a fantastic experience with PETS Referral Center.

Our 6 year old cat, Bowie, had a life threatening emergency which we discovered at 7:30am on a Sunday morning.  Turns out he had a blocked bladder and was unable to urinate.

As our regular vet office was closed, we were referred to PETS.  Our 5-Star experience commenced the second I walked in the door.

The receptionist was both friendly and efficient … I had just started filling out the intake form, when Bowie was whisked back to the doctor.  Bowie’s situation was dire.  Within minutes, I was conferring with Dr Jarvis, who was also friendly, efficient and sympathetic in conveying potentially bad news.  Bowie required immediate attention: first a catheter to drain his bladder, then a series of tests to determine treatment.  It was possible he wouldn’t make it, and they were likely to have to keep him anywhere from 24-72 hours.

After a review of estimated costs and timelines requiring my approval, Bowie was fully handed over to Dr Jarvis & Team.  They asked if I wanted to see Bowie before I left the facility.  I did so, wondering if it was the last time I would see him.  They were so kind to offer I could come back at any time to visit.  I was called mid-morning with an update ( bladder had been successfully drained ), and then again by end day ( initial blood work and urinalysis was complete and awaiting results ).

We then received a follow up call next morning ( Monday ) @ 6:30am from the night shift doctor.  Blood work looked good, still awaiting urinalysis.  My wife & I went to the facility at 12 noon to visit Bowie and met with Dr Isaacson.  Results were looking good, and Bowie might be able to be released as soon as end of day … they would keep us informed.

Sure enough, at 5pm they called informing we could take Bowie home.  The speed with which they treated him saved us a ton of $$.  Overnighting a pet adds appreciably to the final bill, and our having to only pay for one night instead of two ( or three ) made a big difference.

When we went to pick up Bowie, we got to confer with nurse Leah who was incredibly patient and thorough in explaining his at home treatment protocol, medications & new diet requirements.  The next day, we even got a follow up phone call to ask how Bowie was doing.

Thank you PETS.  We felt so assured to have Bowie in your excellent care, and wholeheartedly recommend you to anyone else who has a pet in sudden need.

One week later, and Bowie is doing great!

I was referred here by my vet for emergencies outside their regular hours. Over Labor Day weekend, my kitten started showing cold symptoms, and this was the only hospital open.

In the waiting room, I saw the nurses working tirelessly, triaging pets and checking vitals right away. They were upfront about the long wait, and I ended up waiting 1 or 2 hours. Since my kitten had a fever, they thoughtfully kept him quarantined from other pets in the waiting area to prevent spreading germs.

When it was our turn, the vet was very caring and gave me a balanced, “middle-ground” approach. Because my kitten’s vitals were stable aside from the fever, she suggested we try medication and monitor him for a few days, with instructions to follow up with my regular vet for tests if things didn’t improve. By the next morning, he was already back on his feet and recovered on his own.

It was such a relief to know he was okay, and even more reassuring to have a place open on a Saturday night during a holiday weekend. The staff here are doing incredibly hard, important work, and I’m surprised to see so many low reviews. I’d come back in a heartbeat if my cat needed urgent care and my regular vet wasn’t available.

Brought my boy in for a toe amputation, and everyone was so friendly and attentive, even down to the decorated paper bag with his medications to go home. The sweetest staff. My cat healed up quickly and smoothly. Teddy and I appreciate you all so much! :)

I unfortunately have gone in a couple of times for my babies. The doctors that I’ve interacted with at the ER department have always been helpful, caring, and knowledgeable. We loved Dr. Petauton. We also loved the support and gentle care that our technician Zena gave us. We were going through a very emotional time with our baby and she was very caring, empathetic, understanding, and kind to my baby and us. Zena gave us the medical and emotional care and attention that we needed at that time. She cared for my baby as if she was her own! Thank you so much Zena, we appreciate you so much! We are so thankful our baby was in yours and Dr. Petauton's very capable hands.

The center is very clean and very well kept. There is plenty of reserved parking and street parking available. I've never waited more than hour to have my babies be seen and talk to a doctor. They are efficient and organized.
